The Lincoln Years 1830-1861

Professor N. Dana Collins

The Bureau County Historical Society (BCHS) will present a program featuring Professor Dana Collins and honoring the birthday of our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln, at the Princeton Public Library on Saturday, February 11, at 1:00 pm. This event is free and open to the public.

The slide presentation discussing Lincoln’s years in Illinois, 1830-1861, from his young manhood in New Salem to his departure thirty-one years later from Springfield to assume the Presidency.

Collins said: “Lincoln’s logic, his wit, and his human compassion are so endlessly rich and rewarding to study. We were very lucky, in those days before the Civil War, to have among us a man, so devoted to our continuing experiment in democracy, and so dedicated to its preservation. His life in Illinois shaped him, as his thought would shape our nation. It is fascinating and rewarding to study his life here.”
